60 years of achievement

The story of Remploy is a reflection of how society, employers, customers and the Government have come to understand the important part that disabled people have to play in the life of this country. The tens of thousands of people who work for us now or have done so during the past six decades make Remploy a very special company. We hope you will help us to continue to lead the way in providing opportunities for people with disabilities.

About us

Remploy started life in April 1945. At that time, the employment of both civilians and military personnel who had been injured during the war was a very important issue. The Disabled Persons (Employment) Act passed in 1944 paved the way for the opening of the first Remploy factories.

Helping disabled people to find a real and worthwhile job gives them the money, self respect and independence which is the right of every citizen.

To help us to do this the Government gives Remploy a grant which now exceeds £100m per annum. In addition, Remploy has the freedom to raise and use funds from other sources, such as its manufacturing and trading operations, to help to achieve its mission.

Remploy Today

Remploy is the UK's largest employer of disabled people.

Besides Furniture manufacturing, Remploy is engaged in many other businesses. These are summarised below:

  • Automotive
  • Household & Toiletries
  • Workscope & Electronics

Every one of the Remploy factories now also has a Learning Centre, where employees can enjoy further training on a wide range of courses.

As an accredited "Investor in People" and approved "Positive About Disabled People" company, Remploy is committed to investing all surplus profits into training our people and developing assets and facilities to continually improve our service to customers.

Remploy has gained a reputation for providing high quality goods and services throughout its diverse range of business operations. Our aim is to protect the trust and confidence we have build up in our relationships with customers, suppliers, employees and government.

We aim for business excellence in all our activities, and are constantly seeking new ways to improve the services we offer.
